Shamrocks

Finding a real four leaf clover is a rare occurrence, with about a one in ten thousand odds and since it is that rare it has always been considered good luck to find one. They say that four leaf clovers are the results of a common three leaf clover mutating into having four leaves instead of three. Scientists say that it's genetic and has something to do with its environment too, or really a combination of the two. There are actual companies apparently, that specifically try to to grow or cultivate, four leaf clovers, with much luck, pardon the pun. According to tradition, each leaf on a four leaf clover represents: faith, hope, love and luck.

Shamrocks, which are also clover are almost a national symbol in Ireland. According to history and legend it is said that St. Patrick, used the shamrock centuries ago to teach people about Christianity as he traveled all over Ireland. The symbolism behind the Shamrocks were that each leaf represented part of the Trinity in Christianity, namely, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

Are Four Leaf Clovers and Shamrocks the same?

Well, it seems that they are both clover and I would think that finding a four leaf shamrock would be just as lucky. However, It would appear that four leaf clover is more often considered trifolium repens, which is white clover, whereas Shamrocks are traditionally thought of as being a little bit different type of clover called trifolium dubium, which has small yellow flowers instead of the white flowers found on white clover. But really it is a toss up when it comes to the Irish because they see both as Shamrocks, while slightly favoring the trifolium dubium with it's smaller yellow flowers. I have a poll below to test your memory. Good luck!
